Astigmatism Correction With Toric Contact Lenses
Toric Contact Lenses For Astigmatism are available for a wide range of prescriptions. Toric contact lenses come in soft lens, gas-permeable and disposable formats.
What is Astigmatism? – Astigmatism is the result of the optical surface of the human cornea, lens or retina not being spherical (round).
Cornea astigmatism is by far the most common, although with higher astigmatisms, a Bi-Toric lens can be made which entails correction on both sides of the contact lens. There are many disposable contact lenses available for smaller astigmatisms under 3.00 diopter. Custom made Toric lenses can be manufactured as high as 12.00 diopters of astigmatism.
New BI-Toric Contact Lenses (For Astigmatism) – are available for high astigmatic prescriptions. These Toric contact lenses come in soft lens, gas-permeable and disposable formats.
Toric contact lenses are designed for the correction of astigmatism. Many people refer to this condition as football shaped eyes. More importantly it is a condition where the vertical power of the eye is different from the horizontal position. A soft lens that is weighted on the bottom and or top to control rotation can solve this prescription by successfully holding the two different corrections while your eye is moving. In the past only gas-permeable lenses would correct this condition. But now the option of soft Toric lenses makes it easier than ever.
Toric Lens For Antigmatism
Irregular and Oblique Astigmatism – can sometimes be associated with Pellucid Marginal Degeneration (PMD). Eyes with slight PMD can also be corrected with soft Bi-Toric contact lenses. Results with a properly fitted Bi-Toric soft lens can be just as clear as hard lenses or gas permeable lenses.
