Protecting your Eyes from UV Damage

Bright white clear eyes are happy eyes. As we get older the white part of our eyes (the sclera) slowly yellow due to UV light but it doesn’t have to be that way.

We all slap on the sunscreen to protect our skin but it is just as important to protect the health of our eyes. UV light damage is cumulative and dangerous.

These harmful rays cause sun spots to form on the skin around our eyes as well as little yellow/white bumps on our sclera’s called pinguecula’s. Not to forget cataracts and macular degeneration.

UV light is not good, so protect your eyes and your children’s eyes. Wear a hat and sunglasses. If you are a contact lens wearer you’ll be happy to know that some contact lenses have 100% UV protection. If you are an eyeglass wearer Essilor’s Crizal UV coatings offer 100% UV protection from light being transmitted through the lens as well as an EyeSPF factor of 25 for light bouncing off the back of the lens into the eye.

There are so many ways to prevent UV damage! Just think about it.
